SWIMMING in Draycote Water could prove fatal.

That is the warning from rangers at the Severn Trent reservoir ahead of the summer months and last week’s unexpected hot spell.

Andrew Parsons said: “The reservoir offers some spectacular views as well as activities for the whole family, but while there’s a long list of things you can do on your visit here, we want to remind visitors that swimming isn’t one of them.

“It gets very deep very quickly, the temperature of the water, even in warm summer months, rarely rises above 8 degrees C which is cold enough to cause hypothermia.

“Big, hidden pipes and pumps pull large amounts of water from the reservoir into a nearby treatment works. Getting caught in one of these strong currents is dangerous even for the most confident of swimmers.”

GARY Barlow and Robbie Williams tribute acts will perform at a summer ball at Coombe Abbey Hotel that aims to raise £20,000 for Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice in Coventry.

Casino-style games, magic and tribute acts are among the attractions at the 007-themed Casino Royale Ball on Friday, June 6.

Tickets cost £75 each or £750 for a table of ten, and include a drinks reception and three-course dinner from the hospice on 024 7636 1675.

Corporate fund-raising manager Muna Chauhan: said “It will give us much-needed funds towards this vital service which has proven a lifeline to many families in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond for the past three years.”
