Tails wagging as work begins on new kennels for dog rescue charity

TAILS are wagging at a dog rescue charity after work began on its new kennels.

Pawprints Dog Rescue in Rugby was given a £5,000 grant from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home which is funding the renovation of a block of kennels.

The charity – which rescues stray and abandoned dogs, many from death row in council pounds, says the money will make a huge difference to the dogs it looks after.

The renovations are being carried out by volunteers, local motorbike group ‘Granny Wolf and the Biker Trikers’.

Chair of trustees Anita Twigger said: “We are extremely grateful to everybody at Battersea for their ongoing support for our work. This grant is vital to ensure our rescue dogs have the very best of care and enrichment.

We are specifically renovating the kennels the rescue dogs occupy while they are waiting to find their new families.

“The work is currently underway and has been supported by local bikers volunteering their time for free to help, and is being project managed by one of our volunteers. We are grateful for their time and muscle.”

The money was donated through Battersea Grants, an initiative supporting smaller rescues.

Grants manager Margaret Hulme said: “We hope this grant will help make a real difference to the lives of dogs in the community. Battersea helps more than 7,000 dogs and cats each year but we want to support rescues and shelters in the UK, not only by awarding funding, but also by sharing the experiences and knowledge we have gained as an animal welfare charity.”
