Teacher stages fund-raising gig in memory of grandfather

A TEACHER from Rugby has raised around £700 for charity in memory of her grandfather by hosting and performing at a fund-raising gig.

Alison Tinham, who teaches at Avon Valley School, invited local artists to perform a golf centre on the outskirts of Birmingham in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The English teacher encouraged family, friends, colleagues and the local community to join her at Hatchford Golf Centre for an evening of food, drinks and live music.

She said: “The charity is chosen in honour of my granddad, who was the best guy I knew, who sadly passed away following a heart attack in March 2016.

“He was a real inspiration to me and my siblings.

“I am thrilled with the amount raised so far, and truly thankful to all who helped out, supported me and donated their time and money to this worthwhile cause.”

Head teacher Alison Davies said: “It’s wonderful to see members of staff being role models and inspiring our students by engaging with the arts. I am delighted Miss Tinham has been able to take to the stage and raised money for her chosen charity.”

Founded in 1961, the British Heart Foundation is the UK’s biggest heart charity and the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research. Their pioneering research has helped to transform the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. Visit www.bhf.org.uk for more information.
