THE QUEEN has thanked Rugbeians.
Her Majesty sent a message to the people of Rugby thanking them for the commemorative book signed by hundreds of well-wishers to celebrate The Queen’s official 90th birthday weekend in June 2016.
The commemorative book was produced as part of the One Britain One Nation’ (OBON) national campaign designed to create a feeling of national unity and belonging.
In addition to the book, people from all faiths, backgrounds, races and age groups gathered in the gardens of St Andrew’s to wish Her Majesty a happy birthday and sing the national anthem at the same times as other towns and cities across the UK.
Aftab Gaffar, managing director of Rugby First, said; “It was a lovely day in St Andrew’s and it was great to see such a wonderful turn-out. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those that attended on the day and those that have taken time out to sign the book and send their wishes to Her Majesty.”
Coun Ramesh Srivastava, of Newbold and Brownsover ward, added: “One Britain One Nation has a simple clear message that embraces all of us, irrespective of race, nationality, faith, colour or creed; whether we were born in Britain or have chosen to live here.
“It was fantastic to see the Rugby community come together for this remarkable event and I am delighted that Her Majesty appreciated the gift and has taken time out to acknowledge and thank everyone.”
OBON has been unifing communities across Britain, over the last few years. This follows the blueprint established by OBON’s founder, Kash Singh, who was the police inspector charged with turning around community life in the diverse district of Manningham in Bradford, following riots in 1995 and 2001.
