THE THORNY issue of green waste will be discussed at a community event to improve recycling habits.

Rugby Liberal Democrats will host the drop-in event on Saturday (September 30) from 10am-12:30pm at the GEC Recreation Ground changing rooms in Hillmorton Road.

Composters John and Sandy Young and the charity Love Food Hate Waste will showcase what can be done with green waste and raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste.

Coun Jerry Roodhouse said: “We know that Rugby Borough Council’s (RBC) green bin policy continues to cause confusion. While green bin charges have raised £823,000 for RBC, the decision is actually costing Warwickshire County Council money with extra landfill costs of approximately £400,000.

“Events like these are important to support the community, save us all money and help the planet.”

The event is free and open to all.

A ROYAL British Legion Jumble Sale is coming to Broughton Astley Village Hall on Saturday (September 30) from 1.30-2.30pm.

Alongside the sale will be a cake stall, books, nearly new items, toys and bric-a-brac. A raffle will be run and refreshments will be available.

Proceeds will go to The Poppy Appeal and The National Arboretum. Admission costs 20p.

THE BRADBY Club Autumn Jumble Sale takes place on Saturday (September 30) at 10am at the club’s East Union Street HQ.

Bargains in clothes, household goods, pictures, shoes, bric-a-brac, toys and books will be on offer, while the nearly new section will offer new clothes for the autumn season.

Admission costs 20p. Tea and coffee will be available.

BILTON Silver Band will welcome one of Europe’s finest trombone soloists to its next concert on Saturday (September 30).

Nick Hudson will perform solo pieces alongside full band performances at the concert, which takes place at St Peter and St John’s Church in Clifton Road at 7.30pm.
