WILLY Wonka, Roman centurions, the Cookie Monster, a unicorn and Rupert the Bear were among the unlikely characters to welcome visitors to Brinklow over the bank holiday weekend as thousands came to the village’s annual Scarecrow Festival.
Residents created an impressive trail of more than 80 scarecrows around the village, which is situated between Coventry and Rugby.
Attractions on the events field included live music, a dog show run by the Nuneaton Dog Club, over 50 craft stalls, children’s rides and inflatables, and food and drink.
Fans of Star Wars met and had their photos taken with some Stormtroopers who officially opened the event on Saturday.
On Sunday, the festival welcomed its biggest collection to date of classic cars, motorbikes and tractors – 70 in total.
Raffle winners picked up prizes including a flight for two, medieval banquet tickets for six people, a champagne afternoon tea for four, tickets to the Belgrade Theatre Pantomime, cinema tickets and more.
All cash raised went to local groups and charities with links to the village, and for much-needed maintenance of its historic buildings and churches.
