THREE people were assaulted outside McDonald’s in the town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 7).

Police said the attacks took place when a group of around 20 men were causing a disturbance outside the Market Place restaurant at 4.50am.

When a man was assaulted by one of the group, a witness intervened.

The witness, a man in his 30s, was then knocked to the floor with a punch to the head from behind, before being kicked in the face four times.

He received a 25mm cut under his right eye which had to be glued at St Cross Hospital.

A woman who pushed the offender off the victim was also punched, but was not injured.

Officers are checking CCTV and appealing for witnesses. Call police on 101 quoting incident 132 of July 7, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
