ENCOURAGING healthier travelling routines is the aim of a survey being conducted by Warwickshire County Council (WCC).
Residents are being asked about their travel habits to help shape a new campaign by WCC’s Road Safety Education and Active Travel Team.
And with less than a week left before the survey closes, the council is keen to hear from anyone who has yet to complete it.
Studies have shown that more UK people than ever before began adopting active travel – walking, running, cycling or scooting – during the pandemic.
This helped people exercise more, reduced the number of cars on the roads, and reduced Warwickshire’s carbon footprint.
Evidence suggests these positive travel trends have been reversing since the end of the last formal lockdown, with residents returning to less active modes of transport for short journeys.
The Road Safety and Active Travel Team is planning a summer campaign to encourage people back towards active travel for short journeys – one mile and under when walking, and five miles and under when cycling.
The survey aims to reveal the types of travel people make during an average week, how many active travel journeys residents make, people’s attitudes towards walking and cycling, and feedback on what could be done to encourage more active travel.
WCC’s transport and highways spokesman Coun Wallace Redford said: “One of our key priorities is to encourage sustainable and active travel across Warwickshire. In order to enable us to do this, we are keen to hear from as many residents as possible about their travel habits and whether and how these have changed during the pandemic.”
