THE STREETS of Rugby have been transformed into an outdoor treasure hunt in celebration of World Book Day (Thursday March 5).
Rugby Borough Council has partnered with High Street Safari to bring an innovative augmented reality treasure hunt to the town centre.
Up until March 15, families are invited to hunt for ten ‘book zones’ hidden in shop windows. Using a smartphone, explorers can scan markers to see 3D book characters which leap into the real world.
Each stop features a hidden secret letter, found by taking selfies with the characters. Families who find all ten can solve the mystery word and complete the trail.
The trail aims to support the World Book Day charity’s mission to improve lives through championing the enjoyment of reading.
Coun Maggie O’Rourke, Rugby Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Partnerships and Wellbeing, said: “We’re very excited to work alongside High Street Safari and bring this trail to Rugby residents.
“This is a great opportunity for individuals and families to get involved with World Book Day in an immersive and creative way, shaping the future generations view on reading in a positive light.”
Her Liberal Democrat counterpart Coun Neil Sandison said: “This interactive experience allows young people to engage with reading and books in a modern way.
“I wish you the best of luck in completing the trail adventure.”
Stephen Blackwell, Project Director at High Street Safari, added: “By bringing these characters to life in 3D, we’re helping children engage with reading in a way that feels modern and exciting. We’re proud to work alongside World Book Day to put books at the heart of the community.”
The Rugby World Book Day Treasure Hunt will run to March 15. No app download is required, just a smartphone with a camera.
