A COLLISION between a white Mercedes sprinter van and a lorry on the M6 claimed the lives of two men on Thursday (December 17).

The crash on the southbound M6 between Junction 2 at Coventry and Junction 1 at Rugby happened just before 5.30am.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic area support officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a van and a lorry that had been in a significant collision.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save either man in the van and they were confirmed deceased on scene.

“The lorry driver was checked over by ambulance staff; he was uninjured, but understandably shaken by what had happened.”

The motorway was closed for a number of hours whilst officers investigated.

Sergeant Dom Martin said: “Our thoughts are with the families at the very sad time.

“We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have may have seen either vehicle to make contact.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone with a dash cam in their vehicle, who may have drove past the road closure following the collision.”

Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact Warwickshire Police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 30 of December 17.
