Uplifting Easter celebration shines a light on community work in Rugby

AN UPLIFTING Easter celebration shone a light on community work which is helping people in Rugby through difficult times.

Hosted by members of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Harvest Fellowship in Rugby, the Light Up Rugby event aimed to ‘light up the hearts of those going through tough times’.

The event at the Benn Hall brought together members of migrant communities who have found a home in Rugby, as well as members of the local voluntary organisations, various churches, and representatives of Warwickshire County Council.

Guests were treated to performances of vibrant gospel music and an evening meal, a medley of African and English cuisine.

Members of Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service were invited onstage to be honoured for their ‘unwavering commitment to the protection of life’.

The evening was also a celebration of the community work of the RCCG at its Warm Hub.

Simon Batten, Community Development Worker at Warwickshire County Council praised the Warm Hub for its community engagement which builds bridges across different communities in Rugby.

Pastor Morola Hayden, Senior Pastor at RCCG Harvest Fellowship Church Rugby, said: “We are grateful to the government’s Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund, whose grants support charities and community organisations in England at the frontline of dealing with the increase in the cost-of-living.”

The RCCG’s Warm Hub, based in Rugby Central Shopping Centre, offers activities such as a Homework Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sewing classes on Mondays, sessions to help make food budgets go further on Monday mornings, arts and crafts sessions on Thursday evenings, and English for non-English speakers on Mondays to Wednesdays. A hot lunch is provided on Fridays. All sessions are free, and all are welcome.
