A TOP civic role has been handed to Barby woman Catherine Lomax.
The village’s councillor for almost 15 years has been appointed chairman of Daventry District Council.
Coun Lomax, a Liberal Democrat, was first elected in 1998, representing a ward that as well her home village also includes Ashby St Ledgers, Onley, Crick and Kilsby.
And she said the main aims of her year in office would be to raise money for her chosen charity the Alzheimer’s Society and to promote the good work of the council to people across the rural parts of the district.
“I would like to ensure people across the whole district see the council as a body which is there to support them, to support their interests and to do what it can to make the district a very good place to live,” she said.
“Being the chairman is a very important role. I’m the public face of the council in many situations.
“The other aspect of the role is getting over to what is a very large, sparsely populated, district that the council is here for everyone.”
