Village fete makes triumphant return after four years off

A TRIUMPHANT return – Easenhall’s Town Thorns Fete and FMI Tony Jennings Classic Car Show has made a spectacular comeback.

It was the first time in four years that the popular community event had taken place, due to its cancellation during the pandemic and its postponement due to the refurbishment of the host venue, Town Thorns Care Home.

The event featured over 100 classic cars on show, 20 stalls selling local crafts and produce, a children’s area and plenty to eat and drink.

The Fellowship of the Motor Industry (FMI) has organised the classic car display at the fete for many years and is a long-term supporter of Ben, the automotive industry charity which runs the care home and provides lifelong support to people who work in the automotive industry.

The MG Owners Club also supported the event and local businesses, Hertz Electrical, Jamesway Travel, Brakes Food Services, Malt Kiln Farm Shop, Gompels, Edge DPM and Carwood donated raffle prizes including a microwave and a Jaguar Land Rover experience day.

Children enjoyed mini golf, inflatables, face painting and a land train which gave them a tour of the Town Thorns grounds.

The soundtrack was provided by African Beats and The Lions Chorus choir from Brinklow, while guests enjoyed cream teas, hot dogs, ice cream, Pimms and prosecco.

Funds raised from the event will be spent on furniture and plants for the care home’s new roof terrace.

Town Thorns Care Home Manager Debbie Dale said: “The fete has been part of our local community life for so many years – it was incredible to see it come roaring back to life.

“We’re so grateful for the continued support of our residents’ friends and families, the local community and local businesses who contributed so generously, and of course to FMI for their hard work in organising the wonderful car show. I’m looking forward to next year already!”
