Volunteers needed to keep lonely St Cross patients company

Rugby Editorial 1st Feb, 2023   0

LONELY patients at the Hospital of St Cross are in need of some company.

The Friends of St Cross charity is seeking more volunteers who can befriend patients by providing company, conversation, and a creative outlet by joining them for bingo, board games and art.

Over the festive season, a group of volunteers from the community joined with regular Friends volunteers to bring some extra cheer to patients who were not well enough to be discharged home.

The charity has since re-launched its Mealtime Companion service for volunteers to help or encourage patients to eat.

Doug Jones, Chair of the Friends of St Cross, said: “The support provided by volunteers at St Cross is widely appreciated by patients and staff alike.

“The demand for voluntary support is high as we continue to be approached with new requests to lend support to staff and improve the patient experience within the Hospital.

“Our services have expanded greatly over the last two years. So, if you think you’d be able to help us to help St Cross with the gift of time in a voluntary role, we look forward to hearing from you.”
