Volunteers praised for making 10,000 masks for vulnerable people

RUGBY ‘masketeers’ are on target to manufacture and distribute 10,000 face masks to vulnerable people across the borough.

At the start of the outbreak a group of 60 volunteers was formed called the Rugby PPE Response Team.

They have delivered masks and other protective wear to local charities and support groups.

And to celebrate the approaching milestone, a picnic was held at Caldecott Park and they were presented with a certificate by mayor Bill Lewis.

Organiser Gita Natarajan said: “When we started this 10,000 masks was a daunting number but I should have known the people of Rugby would respond.

“We have produced nearly 9,000 masks which have been distributed to very worthy recipients and will reach our target over the coming weeks.”
