HISTORY is being brought to life at Rugby Library – and volunteers are wanted to contribute their stories.
Warwickshire Bytes is a project telling the history of the county through the stories of those who lived here.
Using volunteers’ photos and memories, as well as official records and court documents, Warwickshire Heritage hopes to create a celebration of Warwickshire’s history in 100 stories – like the hurricane which caused destruction in Rugby in 1846.
Volunteers can use computers at the library to upload documents, photos and letters, or can do so from home via the internet.
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey joined Warwickshire County Council’s customer and transformation spokeswoman Kam Kaur at Rugby Library to see the fruits of the project.
He said: “Warwickshire and Rugby have a great history of culture and community. Ensuring that we keep these memories alive through projects such as Warwickshire Bytes will continue to build our community.
“I was particularly pleased to see how Warwickshire Heritage is taking advantage of the opportunities which the internet provides to create this project. With the vast majority of people now using the internet on a daily basis, with easy to access computers in Rugby Library for those who do not have a personal computer, it has never been easier to share your memories with the rest of Warwickshire.”
Coun Kaur added: “Warwickshire Bytes is a great project which encompasses young and old volunteers to upload county records and historic documents digitally. This enables our Warwickshire residents and families looking for information about their family history to dive into these records digitally from anywhere across Warwickshire and the world.”
