RESIDENTS in Rugby and Bulkington are going to the the polls today (Thursday).
Polling stations across the area will be open until 10pm as voters elect the constituency’s next MP.
Conservative Mark Pawsey is looking to defend the 6,000 majority he won at the 2010 election.
He is up against Labour’s Claire Edwards, LibDem Ed Goncalves, UKIP’s Gordon Davies, TUSC’s Pete McLaren and Terry White of the Green Party.
Candidates have spent the last few weeks campaigning and attending various debates across the borough in a bid to convince residents they are the right person for the job.
The result of the Rugby and Bulkington seat is expected to be declared between 4-5am tomorrow morning (Friday) with the count taking place at Rugby Town Hall.
And the make-up of the borough council could also be in for a shake-up as 14 seats from the 16 wards are up for grabs, including those of Conservative council leader Michael Stokes (Admirals and Cawston), Labour group leader Claire Edwards (Newbold and Brownsover) and LibDem group leader Jerry Roodhouse (Paddox).
Results of the borough council elections are expected to be announced sometime tomorrow afternoon (Friday).
And there are also a number of parish council elections set to take place, the results of which will be available on Saturday.
