A FLEET of sure-footed gritters is ready to take on the ice and snow in the coming months.
Warwickshire County Council has 29 gritting vehicles – plus seven spares – based at County Highways depots across the county, allowing teams to continuously grit and spread over many hours.
They will have access to over 14,000 tonnes of salt at the start of the season, which will be monitored to ensure that gritting can take place throughout the winter.
Primary routes – over 1,500km of them – are a priority for the gritting teams, but other routes can also be cleared as resources become available.
Council transport spokesman Coun Peter Butlin said they had a hard-working and capable team ready to take up the task of keeping the county’s roads clear.
But he added: “Motorists will still need to stay vigilant on icy and hazardous roads.”
