Warwickshire's biggest zip-wire coming to Draycote Water for one-day fund-raiser

THE BIGGEST zip wire in Warwickshire is coming to Draycote Water for a one-day fund-raising challenge.

The Global Care charity will perch a 40ft crane at the top of Hensborough Hill next to the reservoir so thrill-seekers can whizz down the 250 metre line at speeds of up to 30mph.

The ‘Take a Risk’ event in June will raise money for the Coventry-based charity’s Children At Risk programme, which supports children around the world by providing aid during disasters, paying for life-saving medical treatment, or meeting unexpected needs for children in crisis.

It follows a successful Take a Risk event in 2017, when fund-raisers abseiled from the roof of Coventry Cathedral, raising £21,000 for the Children at Risk fund.

Charity CEO John White, who did the abseil and is planning to do the zipwire, said: “It’s going to be a great day, great fun and a truly unique experience – and if I can do it, anyone can!

“Participants will get a panoramic view of the countryside around Draycote Water, a unique opportunity and a massive adrenaline buzz!

“Best of all, the whole event has the potential to make an enormous difference in the lives of marginalised children, where even small amounts of support can be the difference between life and death, hope and despair.”

Global Care, founded in Coventry nearly 40 years ago, hopes to raise at least £20,000 for the Children At Risk programme, which has supported impoverished communities with feeding and welfare care throughout the pandemic, and supported education for children unable to access online learning.

The Take A Risk 2022 zip-wire event takes place on Saturday June 25. Participants must pay £35 to register and commit to either raising a minimum of £150 in sponsorship, or to sign up as a regular Children At Risk donor at £6 per month for at least two years. Participants must weigh between six and 17 stone. There are a maximum of 160 places. All participants get a free t-shirt and a photo on the day.
