Warwickshire's Environmental Management System declared ‘robust and effective’ by national standards body

WARWICKSHIRE’S Environmental Management System has been declared ‘robust and effective’ by the UK’s national standards body.

The system, run by Warwickshire County Council (WCC), was certified by the British Standards Institute (BSI) after a two-day assessment, and re-accredited for a further three years.

The council is one of only a handful in England to have an Environmental Management System in place, and has held this accreditation since 2008.

The Environmental Management System supports the council in managing the environmental impacts and risks associated with offering services to residents, and helps to determine the areas for potential improvement.

Following on from WCC’s declaration of a climate change emergency in 2019, it provides a way of tracking and reporting progress against various environmental performance requirements.

WCC environment spokeswoman Coun Heather Timms said: “Having the Environmental Management System in place means we have the data and information needed to decide where to put our efforts to meet our climate change objectives.

“Having the system once again certified is a great reflection on the team who have worked very hard this year on what is a complex and wide-ranging piece of work.”

Current environmental projects available to Warwickshire residents include the government’s Green Homes Grant, which gives homeowners and landlords the opportunity to apply for a voucher towards the cost of installing energy-efficient and low-carbon heating improvements to their homes.

Residents can also join Warwickshire Switch and Save, a collective energy switch to help residents save money on their energy bills while switching to providers who offer 100 per cent green energy.
