A CARELESS driver from Coventry has been banned after being caught on camera driving the wrong way along the A46 Stoneleigh.
Dashcam footage submitted by a member of the public to Warwickshire Police’s Operation Snap initiative last May showed the motorist driving the wrong way up an entry slip road, meeting drivers travelling in the opposite direction.
Rather than stopping, he switched on his hazard lights and continued driving against the flow of traffic.
The 25-year-old appeared at Leamington Magistrates Court on Tuesday January 20, where he was fined £500 and banned from driving for six months after pleading guilty to careless driving, and driving without a licence and insurance.
Road Safety Officer PC Ken Bratley said: “This man’s driving fell well below the standard of a competent and careful driver, putting himself and others at risk of serious injury.
“We can only hope he uses the six month ban to reflect on the potential consequences and takes responsibility by becoming a safer, better driver when he eventually returns to the roads.”
Offences that can be submitted to Operation Snap include driving dangerously or carelessly to overtaking on solid white lines, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights, and dangerous driving around other road users such as horse riders and cyclists.
