WATCH: Police raid Rugby homes as drug gang crackdown continues

DRUG raids were carried out by police in Rugby yesterday (Wednesday January 23) as part of a crackdown on ‘county lines’ gangs.

Officers found a drug believed to be heroin when they raided a flat in Herdwick Court in Murray Road. A 53-year-old man from Rugby was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin with intent to supply. Watch footage of the raid above.

Following another raid at a house in Knole Close, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply. A drug believed to be cannabis was seized.

The arrests were part of an Offender Management Unit investigation into county lines drug crime, where dealers from cities move into towns where their faces are not known to local police.

The highly-organised city gangs identify drug users or other vulnerable people in their target towns and send ‘runners’ to take over their homes – often children as young as 14 – to enable them to deal at street level.

Anyone with information about the supply of drugs in Warwickshire should call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
