Whodunnit? Murder mystery and anonymous benefactor delight hospital charity

MYSTERY surrounds the Friends of St Cross Hospital (FOSC) charity.

A Murder Mystery evening raised over £3,800 for the charity, while an anonymous supporter donated a seven-foot tall obelisk on which to grow plants at the hospital.

Actors from Rugby Theatre performed a whodunnit for 70 FOSC supporters, who were also treated to a medieval menu prepared by the Chef’s Kitchen.

The evening was hosted by Friends trustee Tracey Lennard and the script was written by Alan Wiggins, one of the Friends’ fundraising team.

Nicky Main, who is a member of Rugby Theatre and helped Tracey organise the event, said: “All the actors said they had a great time and I know they would all be keen to get involved in something similar next year.”

FOSC chairman Willy Goldschmidt said: “It was a great evening. Special thanks go to Nicky Main, who not only recruited the actors from Rugby Theatre but also secured an extremely generous donation and matching funds of £2,165 from her employer’s charity Healthy Hope from Holland & Barrett.

“It is fabulous to get such support from the local community and a major Midlands company as well.”

Meanwhile, the charity was delighted to receive the obelisk, which was installed by Vinci Facilities next to the entrance to the Friends’ Blood Taking Unit.

Senior phlebotomist Babs Langridge thanked Marie and Reg of Rimo Growers in Dunchurch, who came along to plant a variety of flowers and bulbs which they have donated and will flower in the coming months.

Willy added: “It’s great how local businesses support the hospital in a variety of ways such as this.

“We look forward to seeing some extra colour in this area which I am sure will be appreciated by the hundreds of people who pass it by every day.”
