AN ‘INVALUABLE’ playgroup in Church Lawford run by volunteers has received a windfall to help realise their dream of building an outdoor play area.

Saplings Stay and Play in Church Lawford has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme.

Saplings is a non-profit group which provides a meeting point for parents and carers, and gives kids the chance to make new friends.

The group, which meets at Church Lawford Village Hall, is currently fundraising to build a play area behind the hall to host outdoor activities.

Lucinda Cullinane from Saplings said: “It is wonderful news that we have received this funding. The Saplings team and I are delighted and enthusiastic to get started on developing the play area.

“Parents and members of our community rely on us for their social network, and the service we provide is invaluable to a great many people.”

Fundraising by the group has included a fete, an afternoon tea experience and numerous parties throughout the year.

Sarah Read, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to contribute to Saplings’ fundraising as we know how important an outdoor play area is to them.”

Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for a match-funded donation of up to £1,000.
