WORK on a new, mini retail park on land between Junction One and Warwickshire College will begin in August – but names of the retailers set to open there have yet to be revealed.
A spokeswoman for landowner St Modwen would only say negotiations were underway with what have been described as ‘major PLC retailers’ although it is understood there will be three and all of which are currently on Elliot’s Field over the road.
The borough council rubber stamped the plans last week for a DIY store and garden centre, and two further units selling bulky goods. They are expected to open to customers by April next year.
The development forms part of a huge swathe of land off Leicester Road where hundreds of homes and a pub are being built.
Peter Rudd, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “This forms an integral part of our aim to regenerate a former industrial site into a mixed use environment and follows recent land sales to Greene King for a pub/restaurant and Taylor Wimpey for new housing.
“We are in discussion with a number of major retail occupiers to take space at the new scheme and now outline planned permission has been granted we look forward to being able to finalise these deals in the near future.
“An announcement on the tenant line-up will be made shortly.”
Junction One has plans to extend while Elliot’s Field is also set to undergo a huge revamp anchored by Debenhams.
