WORLD cup winning rugby legends will lead a celebration to mark the revamp and renaming of the town centre’s shopping mall this weekend.

Rugby World Cup winners Will Greenwood and Jason Leonard will officially unveil Rugby Central – the new name for the Clock Towers Shopping Centre.

The England world champions will perform the grand opening at 9am on Saturday (October 28).

This will be followed by the chance to meet and greet the celebrities, before a day of family fun entertainment takes place from 10am to 4pm.

Visitors can try their hand at traditional side stalls, have their caricature drawn, or treat themselves at the popcorn and candy floss stalls.

Another day of fun takes place on Sunday (October 29) from 10am to 4pm.

The rebranding takes place as 18 months of refurbishment, modernisation and upgrades reaches the final stages.

Owners CT Properties, who bought the complex in 2015, made a ‘significant investment’ to upgrade the mall.

The roof – previously notorious for leaking during heavy rain – has been replaced, and new disability-compliant ‘pay on foot’ machines that allow chip-and-pin card payments have been installed.

The revamp also includes new lifts, new granite flooring laid, new CCTV cameras, improved car park lighting, and free WiFi.

Centre manager Robin Swift said: “Rugby Central embodies our enviable position in the centre of the town and that we are here for the people, whether they are visiting to shop or to meet friends and family for lunch or coffee.

“The tenants and management team look forward to welcoming everybody on site during the celebratory weekend and in the future.”

A CT spokeswoman said: “Anybody who has visited Clock Towers over the last year or so will have noticed the new life being breathed into the retail space, overhauling outdated services, as well as refreshing and modernising the centre’s finishes and amenities.”

Rugby First managing director Aftab Gaffar added: “The development of Rugby Central is essential for the town and our community. The new branding and refurbished entrances will be an enhancement for Market Mall and Market Place.

“We look forward to working closely with the management to promote the centre within the town.”
