Young entrepreneurs rewarded after successful year

BUDDING entrepreneurs have been rewarded after a successful year of trade.

Students from The Avon Valley School joined forces with students from Harris School, Ashlawn, Rugby High School and Lawrence Sheriff School to create new businesses as part of a Young Enterprise competition.

Year 11 Avon Valley School students Rhiannon Ryan, Nick Blackburn, Adrian Kaczmarek, Cait Bridgeman, Adam Taylor and Elliot Green made up team ‘Zoetic Innovation’ while Anshika Anand headed her team ‘Meraki’. And Lauren Parsons and Mollie Stevens were part of ‘Ascension’.

The Young Enterprise scheme involved deciding the company name and product, creating a business plan, managing the company’s finances, selling to the public at trade fairs and ultimately winding up the company and paying their taxes at the end of the academic year. The students also received the support of a volunteer business adviser.

A number of awards were presented at Young Enterprise Rugby Board’s annual presentation evening by Mayor Sally Bragg.

Teams Zoetic and Meraki won awards while individual successes went to Rhiannon Ryan, Lauren Parsons and Adam Taylor.

Headteacher Alison Davies said: “It is wonderful to see our students collaborating with other students across Rugby, to set up and run their own business ventures. As part of the process the students learn valuable skills such as communication, team work and commitment. I like to say well done to all who took part and congratulations to those who won an award.”

Young Enterprise is a UK charity empowering young people to develop and hone business skills, enabling them to make the connection between school and the world of work.
