VISITORS may have been wondering what all the fuss was a-boat at Draycote Water this week.
More than 150 boats weighed anchor on Sunday (July 23) for one of the country’s biggest youth regattas, hosted by Draycote Water Sailing Club.
A total of 176 competitors aged between eight and 18 are showing off their sailing prowess all week for the National School Sailing Association’s National Youth Regatta 2023.
And it is proving a fully immersive experience, with the competitors camping in the country park over night and racing every day.
The water-tight schedule began with a parade and opening ceremony on the Sunday evening complete with good luck video messages from sailing superstars, including the sport’s most successful Olympian Ben Ainslie.
The biggest race of the week took place on Wednesday when all the 150 plus boats were afloat at once.
