Based on the hit movie starring Jack Black, School of Rock follows a failed rock star who tries to earn a bit of extra cash by posing as a supply teacher at a prestigious prep school – where he turns a class of straight-A pupils into a rock band.

The theatre’s marketing director Wendy Kay said: “Rugby Theatre is delighted to have been granted one of the first amateur licences for School of Rock following the success of the professional tour, and we’re thrilled to perform it for the first time at Rugby Theatre next summer.”

Kids’ parts up for grabs include four rockstar members of the band, plus various other roles, such as flamboyant Billy who designs the band’s costumes, and ambitious Summer, who thinks that managing the band will look good on her college application.

Auditions take place on October 15 and 16 at Rugby Theatre’s Central Hall in Henry Street. Youngsters should be aged between 10-14, and need to be able to act, sing in tune and have a sense of musicality.
