BUDDING young actors, singers and dancers are the ones that Rugby Theatre wants to star in its summer youth project production of the iconic Grease the Musical.
The Henry Street venue is inviting talented local youngsters to audition for roles including leather-clad greaser Danny, girl-next-door Sandy, the Pink Ladies, and the Burger Palace Boys – also known as the T-birds in the hit 1978 movie adaptation.
The show is famous for classic songs including Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, Hopelessly Devoted to You and You’re the One that I Want.
Rugby Theatre’s promotions director Wendy Kay said: “Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of this legendary show.
“With a West End creative team and a live orchestra, our summer youth project offers an unforgettable theatrical experience over the summer holidays.”
The youth project is open to actors, singers and dancers aged 10 to 21, with participants putting together a show after just 10 days of intensive rehearsals, guided by a West End director, choreographer and musical director.
Those who don’t want to be on stage can get involved behind the scenes, in props, scenery, lighting, wardrobe and more.
Rugby Theatre’s youth project is now in its 24th year and was set up to give young people access to theatre, and to help them develop skills they can take forward into their adult lives.
The youth project runs from July 29 to August 13, with auditions taking place on Sunday (February 19). No preparation is necessary as students will be taught a song from the show and some dance steps on the day.
