Barber leaves Borough buoyant after comeback

Rugby Editorial 8th Jan, 2020   0

RUGBY Borough had to come from behind to edge out FC Khalsa GAD in a hard-fought 3-2 win at Kilsby Lane.

The win keeps Borough fifth in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division, hot on the toes of the sides above them having played several games less.

Zaakir Bham dealt an early blow to the hosts when his solo run, which took him past four Rugby defenders, ended with a slick scooped finish over Ryan Woodward into the net.

An equaliser was provided when Reece Lydon drove the ball past the visiting keeper from Jack Bibb’s defence-cutting pass, before going ahead shortly after the restart through Nic Whittam’s header.

Khalsa’s penalty miss proved crucial as Shaun Barber added a third for Rugby with a long-range lob, enough to earn all three points in spite of Parven Johal’s late strike to cut the deficit.

Borough host eighth-placed Asfordby on Saturday (3pm).
