WARWICKSHIRE BEARS Wheelchair Basketball Club have received the uplifting news that coverage of one of their upcoming fixtures is to be broadcast on the BBC.

The announcement followed the disappointment of their second string side losing out 77-40 to the Aces, but news of their game against C.W.B.A being streamed live by the national broadcaster comes as music to the ears of head coach Tom Masterson.

“This is an amazing opportunity for the Bears and our sport,” he said.

“This gives us a perfect opportunity to showcase our fantastic club and what we do.

“Hopefully we can generate enough interest to fill out the arena, with us providing some great games and entertainment free of charge, plus the chance for people to come and watch a live game and meet the players and staff and maybe have a go themselves.”

The fixture at University of Birmingham’s new sports arena will take place on Saturday 6th April – with tickets being free of charge. More information can be found at www.bearswbc.com or by ringing the club on 07946518354.

Meanwhile in Sunday’s game in Aylesbury, Aces – featuring new signing and French international Jordan Luce – were a class above the visitors.

From the tip off the hosts were a presence either end of the court, with Luce winning a number of turn-overs for her new side, seeing out the first quarter 24-4.

Bears faced a similar uphill task in the second-quarter but managed to limit the flow of points scored by the hosts, but still trailed the Aces 37-10.

Daz Peasley managed to net some points as their rate of scoring improved, switching to a more offensive style in the third quarter, bringing the score to 59-28 but still trailing by a landslide.

The Aces emerged in the final quarter looking to kill off the game and extend their advantage, Leanna Adams proving a real hot shot for her side, as the final buzzer rang out to signal a 77-40 win for the hosts.

Bears 2 coach Daz Peasley praised their opponents and promised to work on areas where his side fell short.

“Firstly I would like to congratulate Aces on an impressive victory. We just couldn’t seem to pass or shoot today, but we will go away and work on those issues.”

The Bears are next in action when the Bears second team travel to Plymouth Raiders on Saturday 23rd February 2019.
