Blaze boss deflated after Cardiff defeats

BLAZE were shut-out for the first time this season as they lost 4-0 at home to Cardiff Devils in the Challenge Cup.

The defeat, their second in as many nights to the Devils having lost 6-3 in South Wales in the Elite League, leaves Blaze needing to win both their remaining Group B ties to progress to the quarter-finals.

Brent Walton put Devils ahead with just 20 seconds left in the first period and Joey Martin doubled their lead.

Doug Clarkson added a third which prompted a Blaze time-out, but Andrew Hotham made it 4-0 with eight minutes remaining.

“I am lost for words really,” said head coach Marc LeFebvre. “It was deflating, it was not good at all.

“I am realistic and I know we will lose games but to produce that kind of effort, especially at home, was poor.

“I really felt terrible for the fans who paid to watch that.

“”We have too many satisfied with being an OK hockey club but I want us to a great hockey club and up there with the bigger clubs and winning trophies.

“But it is up to me to fix it and I will. I need to change things, that’s not good enough for this hockey club, and I need to shake things up and send a message.”
