ICE HOCKEY: FANS of Coventry Blaze have been labelled ‘phenomenal’ after the Elite League club broke a new record for consecutive high attendances at the Skydome.

Blaze revealed this week at Sunday’s crowd of 2,409 for the match against Sheffield Steelers was a ninth consecutive crowd of over 2,300.

It was the perfect way for Blaze to celebrate its 600th home game with the previous highest attendance ever coming in the match against Edinburgh Capitals on January 28, 2017.

With the race for an Elite League playoff spot hotting up and the league leading Cardiff Devils coming to the Skydome this Saturday, Blaze are excited to try to extend the record for as long as possible.

“The support we have had, and continue to receive is phenomenal,” said Buxton.

“Whatever the result, we’re proud of the product that we offer on a match-night at the Skydome Arena and we believe that the consistent high crowds demonstrate that.

“People enjoy Blaze hockey, whether it’s the intensity or speed of the sport, the family atmosphere, or the between period games, there is something for everyone.

“Added to our long-standing core of valued fans, this season we have been delighted to see more new faces than ever before come through the doors, and then come back time and time again.

“We often say that the Blaze experience is the best night out in Coventry and we firmly believe that. Thank you again to everyone. That includes all of our dedicated supporters, the people who give up their time to help us put on the fabulous match-night experience, and to our office staff and media guys who work so hard to attract so many people to our games.”

Blaze are next in action at the Skydome on Arena on Saturday night (February 11).
