Borough maintain resurgence under Young and Wardle

Rugby Editorial 26th Feb, 2020   0

REJUVENATED Rugby Borough marched to a second successive win under their new-look management team with Saturday’s 4-1 defeat of Ellistown.

The result, which follows the emphatic 9-2 thrashing of GNG Leicester, continues Tommy Young and Tom Wardle’s 100 per cent record at the helm, helping Borough move up to fifth in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division.

In Saturday’s meeting at Kilsby Lane, Jeff Woodward scored a crucial opener 30 seconds before the break when meeting Alex Webb’s cross.

A second goal was provided by Reece Lydon 13 minutes into the second half, before Tommy Glasscoe added a third after Ellistown’s Callum York had reduced the deficit.

With time winding down, there was still time for a fourth, as Webb converted from a corner kick to seal a tenth win of the campaign for Rugby.

While runaway leaders Allexton & New Parks seem too far out of reach on 56 points, Rugby’s 32-point haul means they still stand a chance of a top three finish, as Borough trail third-placed Friar Lane & Epworth by six points with four games in hand.

Rugby aim for a third win in a row away to Sileby Town on Saturday (2pm), when they can leapfrog their rivals into fourth with victory.
