Borough make Birmingham Vase progress

FOOTBALL: BOROUGH advanced to the second round of the Birmingham Vase after seeing off CPA FC in an 11 goal thriller.

Windy conditions on arrival and an open pitch made playing conditions difficult from the start, but it was Borough that adapted quickest.

Borough keeper Maketa was forced into a good early save from close range as CPA had their first clear cut chance on goal in the opening minutes.

But Borough responded well and were soon ahead when Chater scored a well worked individual goal, beating four players and curling a shot beyond the home side’s keeper.

The hosts weren’t behind for long though as CPA drew level with a shot from the edge of the box.

CPA were soon ahead following a free kick on 33 minutes, finding the back of the via the crossbar.

Borough again reacted well and six minutes later were level once more after Shaw scored from inside the box to level the game at half time.

Stronger winds aided Borough in the second half, and although CPA scored two more, Borough proved clinical in front of net – bagging another five goals.

But Borough made hard work of it, conceding in the opening moments of the first half from a free kick.

Chater levelled the game once more following a cross from Shaw before Chater completed his hat-trick from another Shaw cross shortly afterwards.

CPA drew level again after they beat the offside trap.

But Borough had the last laugh when McGahey bagged Borough’s fifth before Shaw scored a sixth and Blackham made it a magnificant seven to send Borough into the next round.
