WARWICKSHIRE Women overcame the county men’s team to claim the annual Rose Bowl Trophy with a thrilling 91-87 success.

A pulsating encounter went down to the last wood with the county men on the brink of retaining their title.

However, ladies county president Pat Gagg’s side scored six shots on the last end while Jenny Corn overcame a five-shot deficit to draw shot with the last wood.

This ensured the trophy went home with the county women who denied the county men back-to-back titles.

Highest winning rink went to Maureen Edwards with Christine Harding (both Rugby Thornfield), Diane Harvey (Warwick Boat Club) and Pat Moore (Three Spires) who picked up three shots on the 13th end in a comfortable 18-8 success.

Gagg (Lillington) with Alison Boyd (Nuneaton), Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park) and Linda Linney (Stratford) picked up six shots on the last end, having trailed through 16 ends, to win 22-13 in what proved a crucial victory.

And Sue Hornsby (Lillington) with Brenda Batt (Snitterfield), Pam Jowers (Stratford) and Liz Crispin (Wolvey) claimed a 14-12 success after taking an early six-nil advantage.

Corn with Pippa Mace, Jayne Henfrey (all Lillington) and Lynn Stringer (Ambleside) surrendered a nine-shot advantage after six ends in a 17-14 defeat.

Liz Crowther (Lillington) with Velisa Brown (Southam), Margaret Boldy (Wellesbourne) and Vanessa Brazier (Rugby Railway) lost 16-12.

And Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Caroline Edwards (RLS), Elaine Taylor (Stoke) and Pat Lowe (Rugby Thornfield) lost 21-11.

County men’s president, Aubrey Brookhouse, presented Gagg with the Rose Bowl Trophy which they will defend in the annual match next year.
