WARWICKSHIRE Women responded to a defeat against Gloucestershire with victory against Herefordshire in the Middle England League.

The county women’s side suffered a 117-101 defeat against Gloucestershire at Stratford Bowls Club following victory against Leicestershire in their opening fixture.

However, Warwickshire returned to winning ways with a 113-101 success against Herefordshire at Weobley and District Bowling Club.

The highest winning rink went to Debbie Bloxham with Lynne Innes (both Stratford), Becky Lever (Rugby Thornfield) and Jane Chedgzoy (Welford) who recovered from a six-shot deficit to draw level after 12 ends and went on to claim a dominant 27-13 victory.

Heather Mills with Dawn Horne (RLS), Wendy Holloway (Welford) and Pat Gagg (Lillington) started well and secured a 17-11 triumph after picking up five shots on the 10th end.

Maureen Edwards with Christine Harding (both Rugby Thornfield), Anita Cowdrill and Jenny Wickens (both RLS) made a strong start en route to a hard-fought 23-21 victory.

Jenny Corn with Pippa Mace (both Lillington), Vivienne Belt (Stratford) and Ros Taylor (Avenue Coventry) led by eight shots after eight ends only to suffer a narrow 19-18 defeat owing to a remarkable comeback from their opponents.

Sue Hornsby with Donna Kerr (both Lillington) with Alison Boyd (Nuneaton) and Elspeth Summers (Stratford) lost 17-12 after making a slow start to their match.

And Gill Maund with Joy Cooke (both Sherwood Park), Nicola Bradshaw (Rugby Thornfield) and Ann Harwood (Nuneaton) eventually lost 21-15 in their game.
