BOWLS - Warwickshire Women's Bowling Association host successful County Finals weekend

WARWICKSHIRE Women’s Bowling Association hosted a successful County Finals weekend at Lillington Bowling Club.

County president Pat Gagg welcomed county players and supporters to Lillington.

The action began with the benevolent triples as Caroline Edwards, Anita Cowdrill and Tracey Turner-Smith (Royal Leamington Spa) took on Margaret Grosvenor, Sue Hornsby (both Lillington) and Joy Cooke (Sherwood Park).

An even contest ensued before four shots on the 13th end saw the Leamington quartet claim a 13-9 victory.

The champion of champions final saw Sandra Dean (Whitnash) and Kirsty Richards (RLS) face off.

Dean raced into a 7-0 lead after four ends only for Richards to mount a comeback and triumph 22-18.




In the unbadged singles game, Ellie Hurst (RLS) romped to a 21-2 success against Gina Sharpe (Rugby Railway).

A thrilling triples match followed as C Edwards, Cowdrill and Turner-Smith (RLS) took on Lily-Mae Adams, Pam Green and Yvonne Pick (Welford).


The Welford trio stormed into a 14-4 lead after 10 ends only for RLS to pick up five shots at the 11th end.

However, Welford held off an RLS fightback to claim a thrilling 20-19 victory.

Emily Kernick (RLS) then triumphed 21-6 in a four-wood singles contest against Heather Mills (RLS).

A back-and-forth two-wood singles match between Maureen Edwards (Rugby Thornfield) and Anna Molony (Avenue Coventry) followed.

M Edwards pulled into a 6-0 lead by the fifth end only for Molony to level the game by the 13th end. However, M Edwards eventually claimed a 16-13 victory.

The pairs action pitted C Edwards and Mills (RLS) against Richards and Kernick (RLS).

C Edwards and Mills led until the 11th end as Richards and Kernick went on to claim a 22-19 success.

The county top club final saw RLS beat Welford on three of four rinks.

A pair of RLS teams contested the fours final as C Edwards, Caroline Williams, Mills and Turner-Smith won 28-6 against Pauline Dineley, Sheena Harris, Christine Leigh and Jane Whyatt.

Lastly, the mixed pairs final saw Cowdrill and Graham White claim a 19-9 victory against Andrew Prickett and Pick.
