Brandon to host prestigious Elite League Riders’ Championship showpiece

BRANDON will stage the Elite League Riders’ Championship showpiece in the closing stages of the 2016 campaign.

The event, which brings together the top riders from all eight top-flight clubs, will take place in late-season and will therefore be one of the final meetings scheduled to take place at Brandon.

Swindon’s Jason Doyle is the defending champion, while Coventry Bees skipper Chris Harris has been on the rostrum four times, three of them in runners-up position.

“I put the request in that as this is our last season at Brandon, it would be fitting that we got one of the major events,” said Bees promoter Mick Horton.

“I’m delighted the members agreed that the ELRC should come to us, and I’ll be supplying a couple of potential dates for the meeting to take place.

“I thought last year our track was very good, and I’m very pleased we are now hosting this meeting.”

BSPA chairman, Keith Champman said there were two main reasons for the event returning to Coventry.

He added: “Firstly, it’s a central venue being in the Midlands and secondly, it’s been a great speedway venue down the years and it seems very fitting to have such a big, prestigious, individual event as one of Brandon’s final ever meetings.”

Elsewhere, Bees’ home Elite League match against King’s Lynn scheduled for April 8 will now take place on April 11.

Meanwhile the Bees’ second trip to face the Stars at the Adrian Flux Arena has been moved from June 16 to June 22.
