Chuck Weber - Coventry Blaze deserved more from Manchester Storm defeat

CHUCK Weber feels his Coventry Blaze side were unlucky to have lost 5-3 at home to Manchester Storm in the Elite League on Sunday night.

Two goals inside 43 seconds from Paul Phillips (11.19) and Vinny Scarsella (12.02) helped Storm hold a two-goal first-period advantage.

Cale Tanaka halved the deficit in the 25th minute with his fourth goal of the season but Matt Caria added a third for Storm two minutes later.

Scarsella’s second of the night extended Storm’s cushion shortly before the half-hour mark only for Jordan Pietrus’ fourth goal of the campaign in the 43rd minute to get Blaze back into the match.

Matt Sisca (45) and Carl Lauzon (52) traded markers but Blaze slipped to a fourth successive defeat to Storm this season.

“We out-shot them 46-26 and we out-chanced them,” said coach Weber, who welcomed back Kevin Noble to the starting line-up following a five-game ban.

“We created a lot of chances but we need our skilled guys to bear down. The difference was their skilled guys beared down and ours didn’t. It is frustrating.

“Credit to their goalie because he made some big saves but we have to start converting more of our chances.

“But we cannot feel sorry for ourselves. We will watch some video and continue to work hard to make ourselves better, it is the only way I know.”
