JAKUB Jakub Sindel netted the crucial game-winning goal as Blaze beat Dundee Stars 2-1 at the Skydome to move to within just a point of the Elite League play-offs.

After Saturday night’s last-gasp heartache at Sheffield Steelers where a goal three seconds from time saw Blaze lose out 2-1, Chuck Weber’s side were were hoping to bounce back the following evening.

But on Sunday night it was Blaze’s turn to leave it late as as Sindel scored with just 75 seconds remaining to earn Blaze their first win in five Elite League matches.

John Dolan had given Stars the lead but captain Ashley Tait levelled with his sixth goal of the season.

Blaze defenceman Craig Cescon and Stars’ Ryan Grimshaw fought before Sindel struck the deciding goal – and his seventh this term – to hand his side two massive points.

The win leaves Blaze in ninth place, four points ahead of Stars and just one point adrift of Edinburgh Capitals in the final play-off position.

“We spent a lot of time defending and you are not going to win many games when you only get 15 shots on goal,” said Sindel.

“It was a 1-1 game going into the third period and we got out-shot 14-2 and that is the second time in a row against Sheffield where we have managed just two shots in the third period.

“We got an early goal but were not able to build on that. We just could not sustain enough pressure and then they get a face-off with nine seconds to go and score with three seconds left, which was gut-wrenching.”
