BOURTON and Frankton CC claimed a 20-run victory against Barrow CC on tour in Suffolk as they broke new ground in a highly successful weekend.
The tour party, based in Bury St Edmunds, made the short trip to to the National Trust estate surrounds of Ickworth House.
And Bourton made the most of being put into bat first as Rich Parsons and Dale Coles made a watchful start to the innings.
Coles (37) eventually departed to a well-taken catch in the deep in what proved to be Bury’s only wicket.
Parsons cantered to a run-a-ball 50 before retiring not out before George Smith reached 53 off just 38 balls as Bourton took control.
Daniel McManus (33 not out) and Mark Whitehead (19 not out) guided the visitors past the 200 mark as Bourton finished on 212-1 from their 35 overs.
Barrow made a positive start in their reply as they looked to continue an unbeaten run which stretched throughout the 2021 season.
However, Jake Quinney (1-24) made the breakthrough before Nigel Kidd (2-24) took two quick wickets, including opener Britten for 38 to halt the home side’s momentum.
Barrow skipper Bryant and teammate Podbury made further progress towards Bourton’s total before Whitehead chipped in with two wickets including that of the former who top scored with 46.
Smith then claimed a pair of late scalps, which included the wicket of Podbury, as the required run rate went past 10 an over.
Bourton took the sting out of Barrow’s attack and closed the game out well to clinch a 20-run victory with Barrow finishing on 192-8.
