RUGBY Cricket Academy have added former South Africa test and one day international (ODI) player Peter Kirsten to their coaching team.

Kirsten will be a full-time coach and will pass on his vast cricketing knowledge to all ages of local cricketers from ages five years upwards.

The 66-year-old, who turns 67 this weekend, played in 12 test matches and 40 ODI’s for South Africa.

His coaching experience includes a stint as national team coach for Uganda whilst he also holds a Cricket South Africa Level 4 coaching licence – the highest possible level.

Rugby’s South African professional player Wesley Landsdale said: “We are really excited to have Peter join our coaching team bringing his expertise and vast cricketing knowledge.

“It is a really exciting time for us with the new season now well underway and Peter will be involved in all areas of our coaching from our juniors through to running one to one sessions with older players.”

Rugby Cricket Academy was set up just over a year ago with its summer base at Rugby Cricket Club and uses facilities at various local School Sports Centres in and around Rugby in winter.

From a standing start, over 200 local players have already received their expert coaching led by Landsdale.

One of the first major events that Kirsten will be coaching at is the half term week cricket coaching camp that runs at Rugby Cricket Club from May 30 to June 2.

Youngsters aged from five to 15 years can take part for as many of the days as they wish from 9.30am to 3pm, with an extended hours option available from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Places on the camp can be booked direct with Rugby Cricket Academy – call Wes Landsdale on 07495 677364 or email: info@rugbycricketacademy.co.uk
