CRICKET - Rugby's weekend games abandoned due to rain

Rugby Editorial 10th May, 2023   0

RUGBY Cricket Club’s season was once again hampered by the weather after all of their fixtures over the bank holiday weekend were abandoned due to heavy rainfall.

The first team’s game against Sutton Coldfield was abandoned without a ball being bowled as was the case for their second, third and fourth teams.

However, the first team were able to take to the field on bank holiday Monday (May 8) as Rugby made the trip to Walmley.

And Rugby impressed with the ball to restrict the home side to 89-7 as Neal McGrath (3-12) took the early wickets of Arman Dubb (1), Sachin Dubb (23) and Sarmad Bhatti (0).

The visitors struck again through Owen Edwards (3-24) who removed Callum Herron (17) and Jonathan Newis (0) in consecutive balls.

And Rugby’s Daanyal Sadiq then ran out Awais Afzal (12) before Edwards claimed his third wicket when he had Amaan Nasar (4) caught by Wes Landsdale.

Walmley rallied through the efforts of Robert Hutchings (61) and Jamie Hall (18) before play was abandoned due to bad weather after 30.1 overs of play.

Rugby took eight points from the fixture and sit 11th in the Warwickshire County League Premier Division table after four matches.
