TAZEEM Ali took five wickets as Warwickshire claimed a dominant 79-run win against Kent in the One-Day Cup.

Ali’s five-fer helped the Bears bowl Kent out for 204 after the home side posted 283-9 from their 50 overs at Rugby School.

Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat as openers Rob Yates (46) and Ed Barnard (60) put on 97 runs for the first wicket.

Further runs from Zen Malik (21) and Alex Davies (20) boosted the home side’s total.

Before Kai Smith (58) and Vansh Jani (42) combined for a 79-run sixth-wicket stand to help the Bears close on 283-9.

In reply, Kent opener Jaydn Denly (52) made a half-century after Barnard (2-38) removed Ben Dawkins (8) and Joey Evison (0) in consecutive balls in the fourth over.

And Ethan Bamber (1-28) then had Chris Benjamin (0) caught for a duck to leave Kent in trouble on 19-3.

Denly and Harry Finch (50) produced a 91-run fourth-wicket stand before Ali (5-54) broke up the partnership with the wicket of Denly.

Further runs from Ekansh Singh (42) took Kent close to the 200-run mark before Ali ripped through the away side’s tail order to claim a five-fer and seal victory for the Bears.

Warwickshire are next in action against Middlesex on Friday, August 15 with play to begin at 11am at Rugby School.
