MARK Robinson felt Warwickshire showed great character after the Bears played out a fourth consecutive County Championship draw with Nottinghamshire.

After Warwickshire lost the toss, Nottinghamshire posted 400 all out from their first innings as the Bears scored 361 in reply before the visitors finished their second innings on 75-1 at Edgbaston.

And head coach Robinson believes his side batted well in tough conditions after Ben Duckett’s double century put the visitors on top.

Robinson said: “We’ve took some hits, we lost the toss, we were on the wrong side of an outstanding innings.

“The weekend was horrible, thick cloud and thick lights, we showed great character and skill to get us through to safer waters and nicer batting conditions.

“We’re pleased with the character but we want to win, it’s just a case of taking stock now because we’ve done some heavy yards in the field.”

A stunning knock from Nottinghamshire opener Duckett (218), supported by Jack Haynes (74) and Ben Slater (65), helped the visitors reach 400 all out.

Olly Hannon-Dalby (5-78) starred with the ball with a five-for while Will Rhodes (2-64) and Hassan Ali (2-65) both took two wickets apiece.

In reply, the Bears middle order guided the county to a solid total as Jacob Bethell (93) top scored supported by Ed Barnard (69), Michael Burgess (43) and Aamer Jamal (40) to trail by 39 runs.

Nottinghamshire reached 75-1 in their second innings, with Hannon-Dalby claiming the prized wicket of Duckett, as the game ended in a draw.

Warwickshire play Surrey at the Kia Oval in their next County Championship outing from May 10 to 13.
