ROB O’Connor, from Rugby, claimed victory in the two-day echelon road race after excelling in all three stages.

O’Connor produced a superb ride in the first stage in Welland as he crossed the line three minutes clear of his rivals.

The Rugby cyclist timed his breakaway to perfection over the final 17-mile stretch of the 48-mile race to sprint away from the chasing pack.

The second stage of the race featured a five-mile time trial with O’Connor caught up in a jam of riders.

However, he lost just four seconds of the lead he built up in the previous stage and won his category to finish third overall.

The third stage took place over a hilly 50-mile route with O’Connor keen to defend his two-minute and 56-second lead.

A breakaway group of four riders proved the biggest threat to O’Connor.

However, the Rugby rider remained calm and chased down the breakaway pack to finish the stage in the bunch and take the overall race win.
