ROB O’Connor claimed his second national title of the season with victory in the British Cycling National Masters Circuit Championships.

The Rugby cyclist triumphed in the 65 to 69-year-old age group in Bath.

Cyclists from across the United Kingdom – from Scotland to Penzance – battled it out on a tricky circuit.

A number of early attacks came to nothing with O’Connor keen to cover any dangerous moves from his competitors.

Dorset-based rider Robert Cranstone attempted a late attack with five laps left to race.

However, O’Connor and Wigan-based rider Roy Homes managed to reel in Cranstone.

With three laps to go, O’Connor and three other riders sat 20 seconds clear of the bunch.

O’Connor went into the last corner into the lead and remained ahead after the final 350m sprint to take the coveted red, white and blue jersey and gold medal.
