Dream start for new girls football team

Rugby Editorial 10th Oct, 2015 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

A NEWLY formed under-12 girls team got their season off to the best possible start with a 2-1 opening victory against Kettering.

Crick Girls Football Club are one of only two teams in the whole Daventry District and they play in the Northamptonshire Women’s and Girls Football League.

The under-12s team was only formed at the end of August and despite their lack of experience they managed to get their campaign off to a winning start.

“I was overjoyed for the girls that have formed such a great bond already,” said jubilant coach Ian Gidley.

“I couldn’t have dreamt of a better start for the new team this season.

“The support from parents has been fantastic and we have been very fortunate to have a brand new kit thanks to sponsorship from The Wheatsheaf pub in Crick.”

The girls currently play seven-a-side but they hopes to move up to nine-a-side in near future.

Gidley added: “The format should be nine-a-side at this age but we need two or three more players before we can play such matches.

“Thankfully, the league are understanding at the moment especially as other teams are in the same boat.

“We are keen to hear from more girls of all abilities that are either in year six or seven at school. No experience is necessary as full coaching will be provided.  Our primary focus is that the girls simply have fun and enjoy playing football.”

Crick Colts is an FA Community Charter Standard Club and all coaches are FA qualified and CRB checked.  For more information contact Ian on 07802 237526 or email [email protected]
